Kongsberg said on 29 October 2026 that it has been awarded a contract modification by the US Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) for autonomous underwater capabilities. The company’s release calls the agency the Department of War Innovation Unit.

The modification is to a Prototype Other Transaction Agreement and is valued at USD 54 million, according to Kongsberg. Most of the value, the company says, relates to supplying autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) of several kinds, with related subsea equipment making up the rest. The release does not name the vehicle types or give a delivery schedule. No matching DIU notice was found, so the figures are the company’s.

Chief executive Eirik Lie said in the release that the contract continues the company’s collaboration with DIU and the US Navy. Camilla Kiss, who heads the Discovery division, said Kongsberg has signed AUV contracts worth a total of NOK 1.7 billion across all markets so far in 2026.

Kongsberg says it has more than 30 years of experience with autonomous underwater vehicles and supplies large AUV systems to defence and commercial customers. The award was announced on the same day as the group’s third-quarter results.

Why it mattersKongsberg says it has signed NOK 1.7 billion of AUV contracts across all markets so far in 2026, and links that growth to what it calls a strategic ambition in undersea warfare.
